Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between the quick enneagram test and the full enneagram test?

The quick version has 10 questions and takes under 2 minutes; the full version has 144 questions and gives a much more nuanced result. Both use the same nine-type system.

How long does the quick enneagram test take?

Between 1 and 2 minutes: just 10 questions with three options each.

Is such a short enneagram test reliable?

It's an orientation-only approximation, not a diagnosis or a validated test. For more nuance, we recommend the full test.

Does the enneagram have the same scientific backing as the Big Five?

Not at the same level. Hook et al. (2021), in their systematic review published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology, found that factor-analytic studies don't consistently replicate the nine-type structure, something that does hold up for validated Big Five instruments. This doesn't invalidate the enneagram as a self-knowledge tool, it just puts its empirical backing in perspective.

Can I retake the quick enneagram test and get a different result?

Yes, that's possible. Your answers aren't set in stone from one time to the next: a shift in mood or life stage can move the result slightly.

What is the RHETI?

The Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator (RHETI) is the enneagram's reference academic questionnaire. It reports your dominant type along with how much each of the other eight types shows up in you: Reformer, Helper, Achiever, Individualist, Investigator, Loyalist, Enthusiast, Challenger, and Peacemaker.

Is it free?

Yes, it's completely free: no sign-up or payment needed to take the test and see your result.
